That
Easton should have so substantial a library is astonishing. With
our relatively small rural population, it would seem unlikely that
we could sustain a contemporary and useful library, and a new building
to house it.
In
fact, the Easton Public Library thrives with the help of the Friends
of the Easton Public Library, a volunteer membership organization
that helps in myriad ways to make the Library a vibrant focal point
of our community. With the help of the Friends, the Library is a
source of both intellectual activity and entertainment in Easton.
The contributions of the Friends are too diverse and numerous to
describe. A sample. . .
- Extensive
contributions to the collection and to the facilities themselves.
- The annual
Book Parade and Children's Holiday Party.
- The annual
paperback and hardcover book sales.
- Programs,
exhibits, speakers, educators, artists, authors, entertainers
and musicians.
As
a member of the Friends you can participate in extensive activities
and serve your library and your community in ways that serve you
and your family.
Without
libraries . . . without books to record each generation's ideas
. . . each generation would have to reinvent the world.
If
libraries are important-- and in a town like Easton our library
is very important--then supporting the library, and helping with
its programs, is a responsibility and a privilege.
