Collection Spotlight: Calling All Outlander Fans!
I remember towards the end of my college years, Outlander was everywhere! The books were being sold in almost every store I went into, the original covers being replaced by the TV show tie-ins. The show was heavily advertised and the cast appeared on many magazine covers.
What was happening? I remember asking myself. What is this "Outlander" and why was it so popular?
Well after doing some research, I learned what it was.
Outlander is a series of books by Diana Gabaldon which follows a woman who is able to time travel. In 18th century Scotland, the main character finds love and adventure all around her. The first novel was published in 1991 and books have been coming out steadily over the last 30 years. The large increase in promotion for both the book series and the TV show was due to the recent release of the eighth volume, Written in My Own Heart's Blood, and the beginning of the television series on Starz.
For fans of the book series, the TV show, or both there is a new book coming out at the end of November! For the first time since 2014, Gabaldon will publish a new Outlander novel. This one is titled Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Its release date? Tuesday, November 23--right around the corner!
For fans of the television series, season 6 will premiere in 2022, according to Wikipedia and will consist of eight episodes. The sixth season will follow the events of the sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Starz also has a planned seventh season which will coincide with the events of An Echo in the Bone. So it seems likely that Starz will continue renewing the series to follow the events of the books yet-to-be-adapted.
