Series Feature: The Book of the Ancestor

By Penelope

This week we are talking about one of our more popular series in the Adult Science Fiction & Fantasy section of the Library: The Book of the Ancestor by Mark Lawrence. For fans of High Fantasy this is a must read! The Easton Library owns print copies of all the books in the series, so don't be afraid to binge read!

The first book Red Sister begins with the tale of eight year-old Nona Grey who sadly has a death sentence on her head. Lucky for her, she is saved by the abbess of the Convent of Sweet Mercy, where girls are trained to become killers. The novel follows the amazing journey of Nona as she tries to overcome her own demons and the persecution of the powerful enemies to become a deadly assassin and survive.

In book two of trilogy, Grey Sister, it is almost time for Nona to make a decision that will decide her future. She has three options to choose from: Red of a Martial Sister, the grey of a Sister of Discretion, the blue of a Mystic Sister or the simple black of a Bride of the Ancestor and a life of prayer and service. But, of course, nothing is easy for Nona. Standing in her way is the Empress and the vengeance of the empire’s richest lord. Nona must find her own path despite the competing pull of friendship, revenge, ambition, and loyalty. And in all this only one thing is certain: there will be blood.

This enthralling trilogy comes to a close with Holy Sister. This book finds readers following Nona's story in the midst of the empire under attack, the emperor’s armies are in retreat, the ice is advancing, and the Corridor narrowing. Despite all of this, Nona has to face the final challenges in order to be accepted as a full sister in the Order of her choice.
