Library Expansion Fundraiser
Dear Easton Resident,
The Easton Library Board of Trustees and Library Building Committee recently made the decision to postpone the planned expansion of the Library’s children’s area. The decision is not the outcome the members wanted, but one they feel is in the best long-term interest of the Library.
The proposed expansion includes adding about 2,000 square feet onto the back of the Library, which would create a new Innovation Space and a place for younger children to read and play away from the adult section of the library. Both the Board and Committee members are enthusiastic about the design and the benefits it would bring to the community.
Unfortunately, the project bids came in significantly higher than estimated. Rather than move forward with a trimmed-down version of the initial plan, the members decided it would be best to put the project on hold. They don’t want to dilute the plans or sacrifice features in an effort to reduce the cost and get it done sooner.
While disappointed with this current delay, both the Board and Committee are committed to seeing the expansion come to fruition. The Board plans to work in the coming months on ways to raise additional funds to ensure this project is built as initially designed, and thanks everyone for their continued support.
